I Will Not Be Defeated

The dress from Friday's post did not prevent me from attempting the pattern again. In fact, if you know me well enough, you will know that I will not be defeated. "If you're like me," you make it again. ( ... and again ... and again ... okay, you get the point.)

On Friday night, I was determined to conquer the pattern. The sizing had to be accurate, I was sure of it. Yet, the neckline was just too big. (Actually, I don't know if Spenser tried it on because she announced, "I don't like that," when she saw the dress. All I know is that the dress kept slipping off a children-sized hanger. Maybe in two years, when it fits, she will like it.)

Anyway, I had remembered that there were a few others in blogland who had used this pattern and, surely, they would have found a solution for this problem. And right, I was! I found this shirt with notes that she put pleats in the sleeves to compensate for gaping neckline. And, what do you know? It totally worked. So, maybe technically, I didn't conquer the pattern, but it turned out. And Spenser likes it. And she wore it to church yesterday. In my book, that means I conquered it.

(Fabric notes: The body of the dress is Alexander Henry's Lemon Blossom. The bias trim tie is Alexander Henry's Pop Dots. Both are from my stash. I also made the ties a little wider so that the design is more visible. This is the pattern for the shirt, which is just a shorter version of the dress.)

I think this one turned out so cute! I'm glad that Spenser likes it. After all, what fun is making something if they don't want to wear it?

Really cute. And I think you conquered the pattern with your alteration...I think that counts.

Ok, this MAY be a repeat comment, I just typed one out and I have no idea where it's gone...

Anyways, I LOVE that top!!! I love it so much that I think *I* might need one of our Simplicity tops in that fabric!

And, that's the cutest model ever!

Darling. Great job! You totally conquered it. And I'm still impressed with the whole making-something-from-a-Japanese-pattern thing. Because I'm just not that brave. You give me hope, though. XO

Seriously? That little one has a career in modeling. Look at her working the red boots.
And the dress is so cute! Love your fabric choice.

If she wears it -- you've won big time! It's adorable (and the picture of your youngest without his pants has me cracking up).
