If You're Like Me ...

... you're always looking for your next "fix." Craft fix, that is. You're scouring books looking for the next project. And then you find it.

In a Japanese book.

And, if you're like me, you will go through your fabric stash looking for the perfect fabrics. And then you find them. And they seem "meant to be" paired together.

And, if you're like me, as soon as you find them, you can't wait to start.

So, if you're like me, you have to wait until the kids are sleeping before you can begin the project. And you're so excited. And you're not sure if you're doing it right because it's all in Japanese. And then the sleeves look a little funky. And the neckline is a little too big for a three-year-old girl. And you feel defeated.

And, if you're like me, you're not gonna let it stop you. You forge ahead and hope for the best. It's cute. It's wonky. But it's finished. And, there's handmade polka dot bias tape! I think it's right up there with handmade gingham bias tape.

(Are you like me?)

Fabric is Kleo in black/orange by Alexander Henry.

If I didn't have a colicky baby, I'd say yes, yes, yes! But, sadly, I haven't sewn in several weeks.

I don't think it looks too wonky. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the polka dot bias tape.

I don't own any Japanese books yet, but I have been drooling over them all over the internet. So much cute stuff, too little time. :o)

I don't even have to answer that question!!

I think the shirt/dress looks great. Especially the combo of the polka dots with that fabric.

I'll have to get myself one of those Japanese books some day.

Lera!!! What a great dress!! And you're my hero for figuring it out from a Japanese craft book!

The polka-dots are just perfect for that fabric. Love it!

My biggest problem is finishing all the other projects I wanted to do before I can start on the next one. That dress looks darling! :)

Um, yes. Add in yarn. Lots of yarn. And patterns that are possibly beyond my skill level (not a lot, just enough to make me have to close my eyes briefly before I plunge). Oh -- and yeah, that Japanese number? I would have been doing the same thing. LOVE the bias tape!

That is super-cute, Lera! The neckline looks like the one in the book. It'll look great with a turtle neck under it.

Oh, the polka-dotted bias tape! It's just... too much wonderful!
I am like you. Except that "kids going to bed" was more like "crazy week is over" and "husband leaves for golf." Which he just did. So... See ya later!

you know i am. and, i'm sorry to say, but i'm glad you had problems, too. it makes me think it might possibly be the pattern? we layer it, and my daughter loves it.

What a cute top. I would never have thought to use that fabric for that top but I think it looks fabulous.

OK, so you sew when your six kiddos are in bed and you make soap when your man is asleep. When do you rest?!

The dress is, of course, adorable.

I totally know what you mean!! Can't wait to start, itchy itchy feet to get going but have to wait till children asleep, house straight, husband happy!!! I have to sew in our living room, so it can be noisy!

The dress looks great though!
