My Valentines

This was the scene at our house last night. The oil lamps were not for ambiance. They were a necessity. Due to the ice yesterday, we lost our power for five hours. Five hours with six kids. it got a little wild at the end (just trust me on this one). It was too nasty to send them out to play. It wasn't bad until it got dark. Open flames and children scare me. (My father is a retired firefighter and my brother is a firefighter, I can't help but be extremely cautious.) They were getting excited thinking about sleeping together, in sleeping bags, in our family room near our gas fireplace. I was thinking it was a night that was never going to end ...

It ended and our power was restored around 6:30 p.m. And not a minute too soon.

Thankfully, I was a little prepared for Valentines Day. I made the felt fortune cookies a few weeks ago, they just needed their fortunes, candy, and assemblage. I made Rice Krispies treats last night and drizzled them in red melted chocolate. Hearts for my family, squares for school.

A little Valentines shirt for my girl...

And a smocket for my girl. One side is linen with a double heart pocket, and the reverse is the heart fabric, which I bought on clearance last year after Valentines. (I would have made things for my boys, but I don't think they are fond of wearing hearts.)

Happy Valentines Day!

Oh Lera! Thank goodness the power came back on before bed-time!

The fortune cookies look GREAT! (as do those yummy rice krispie treats!).

And....those clothes for Spenser. So adorable!

Glad your power is back on. That kind of thing is only fun for very short periods of time. Spenser's Valentine's day clothes are so cute! And those rice krispie treats are making my tummy rumble (Darn you weight watchers!) Happy Valentine's Day Lera!

Thank goodness for power -- although I have to admit, sleeping out with everyone is fun too and I have wonderful childhood memories of power-free days where we warmed ourselves by the fire. :)

Cute smocket! And shirt! Aren't those little applique projects satisfying?

Happy Valentine's Day! nXO

I LOVE the shirt and smocket. I can't imagine why the boys wouldn't go for the hearts. :)

A perfect smock for the occasion! Well done for surviving a blackout with six children!
I love the smocket. Love the cute heart fabric too. I wish I had thought of sewing something for Valentine for the kids too.
