Finding Lost Treasures

Saturday I decided to rearrange a few things in the house. I came up with this "great" idea in the middle of the night when I couldn't get back to sleep. I could barely wait until daylight so I could get to work and not disturb everyone in the house.

First, we took down our Christmas trees and decorations (and I'm still finding some decorations that I forgot to pack up, which really annoys me). I would have taken down the tree earlier, but I wanted help and had to wait until everyone was home. It was the first year I made the boys take their ornaments off the tree and pack them up. They needed help, but they did most of the work themselves.

Then I headed into the dining room, where I usually sew. This is the corner before:

And here it is after:

The table is one that we found earlier this year for free. It's a little wobbly, so I'm sure it will get on my nerves. It looks very neat. In fact, my friend, Kim, said it's not my sewing area, because it's too clean! Ha! (So sad that's she's completely right!)

When Joe and I went into our basement to put away all the boxes of Christmas stuff, I was determined to find some children's books I have, that I have not seen in ages (probably since before we moved to Ohio in 2001). In fact, I only remembered I had them when I saw them on another blog. Well, I didn't find them, but I found something better. My lost treasures.

The wooden doll was gifted to me by my uncle (I think) many, many years ago. She is a maid with a little apron and a hat upon her head. Her limbs have been broken off, but she's' all there. The Winnie-the-Pooh is only a vague memory. His body is hard inside. He is not cuddly. His arms are so thin, they flap. He still makes me smile, though.

The little green mailbox used to have candy inside (I think little envelopes). It held more treasures inside, including the owl with the blue-stone belly that my parents gave me when they took a trip to Utah when I was a few years old. There was also another little "gem" that I think belonged on a necklace of mine.

And then I found my sister's old address ripped from the corner of an envelope. It's always fun to see her handwriting. I think I must have kept it because they were always moving (her husband was stationed at Ft. Drum in NY).

I was so happy to find all of my treasures. I call it a successful Saturday.

Yesterday afternoon I worked on a banner for my sewing blog. I'm not really happy with it, but after hours of working on it, that's all I could come up with. It's a little wider than I would prefer. I want to make one for this blog. Any suggestions to make it easier?

look at you all ambitious with fixing up the house!
i feel that way mentally, but it's just not happening right now. i'm lucky if i get my laundry folded.
That's great, so nice and tidy. But, uuhhhmmm, where did the yummy treats go?
It's nice to know that I am not the only person that still has stuff like that from their childhood. I like the way they bring back memories.

OK, you have to tell me how you got that banner in your header. I have tried and still cannot for the life of me figure it out... and usually I am pretty good at stuff like that.

Hi Lera. I enjoy reading your blog. I also enjoy seeing your handiwork. I noticed you have a Disney sewing machine in the picture you posted. I've been thinking about purchasing that one for some embroidery for handmade gifts, etc. Do you think it is a good machine?

Yay! Your own sewing space! Don't worry, it'll get messy enough in no time. :) I'm SO not an expert on banners. I think your banner looks really nice, I think you're just trying to make it take less time? Things like that always seem to take me forever as well.
