Easter Embroidery

There is a strange phenomenon going on in my house right now. It's kind of eerie. Eerily quiet. The four big boys are at school. Spenser is still sleeping. And Sawyer fell asleep on the sofa while I was in the shower. Except for the sound of my computer (and the sound of walking? on my roof or in my attic?? more spooky noises), all is quiet. I think I like it.

And here is the only bit of crafting I managed to do over the weekend. (I got pinkeye on Saturday and still have it. Yuck!) A little Easter embroidery. These eggs were inspired by some ceramic (?) eggs my aunt gave me and my sister when we were younger. In the 70's. If I remember correctly, my sister's was polka dotted and I always liked hers more (kinda funny if you know how much I adore polka dots now). Mine was a crazy-70's colored egg with zigzag lines all over it. In my mind's eye, 30 years later, I think I like my egg better. I don't know whatever happened to them.

Anyway, as I embroidered it I heard:

"Who's that for?"
"Can I have it?"
"Mom, can I have it?"
"What are you going to do with that?"
"Is it for me?"

Who would have "thunk" that a few embroidered Easter eggs would have been such a big hit and in high demand?

I think I hear the pitter-patter of Spenser's little feet upstairs. It was nice while it lasted.

Yay me! I never win these things.

There is something so sweet about simple embroidery. My kiddos love it, too. It's like mommy is drawing with thread, and they are mesmorized. Love those eggs.

Hi, have just found your Blog and have spent most of the night reading it-- got fuzzy eyes now. Love the sewing, quick question if I may. The pants you made for Sawyer ( the autumn ones) were these made from an actual pattern or did you just do them yourself? I'd love to have a go at making them for my 7mth old. Thanks

Reusable Swiffer WetJet Cloths

I promised myself that, when I bought a box of Swiffer WetJet refills at the wholesale club, it would be the last box I bought. Something had to be done. Now, to be honest, part of the reason was to help the environment, but the other part was because I was tired of running out of those darn things. I took some towels, folded them in half cut them into 5" widths. (The towel was just about 25" or so from side to side when flat.) Then I cut two 5" pieces of elastic and serged it all together. Two layers of toweling and two elastic strips. That's it. (The finished piece was approximately 4.75" x 12.") Within minutes I had a stack of eight. Slide them on and mop away. You will have a clean floor and have saved one more thing from ending up in the landfill. Now, if I can just do something about the cleaning liquid ... Something environmentally-friendly, economical, and won't cause further pain to my arthritic back.

It's that time of year again. The one that seems to come faster and closer every year. Yes, today I am 39. (That means I'm almost 40! Aaaahh!) To keep in tradition with years' past , I decided to do a list of things you might not know about me . (My best friend loves these posts, so this is in honor of her. You know who you are.) I ran 1 3/4 miles this morning. I gained 3-4 pounds after Sawyer weaned himself this year. Since starting to run, Joe has said that my thighs are "as tight as when we were first married." I didn't realize my thighs weren't tight. Hmmm. I guess six kids can do that to you. I need a new mattress. We bought our last mattress when I was in labor with Carter . That was ten years ago. We also bought a set of bunk beds that day. I want a new sofa. Actually two new sofas. I'm waiting until Sawyer is potty-trained. I'm planning on training him as soon as school lets out in June.
