Strawberries + Gingham

I have been needing a new tote. Okay, not really. How about I've been wanting a new tote? Does that sound more realistic?

I've had the strawberry sheet on my mind all week. Must. Use. It. Up. In fact, I've used so much, I've started to use bits and pieces of the fitted sheet, which is worn in some spots, so not as usable as the pristine flat sheet.

Anyway, where was I? Oh, totes! Yes, I needed wanted a new tote, so I decided what is more summery than a strawberry tote with vintage gingham? Oh, it so reminds me of a summer picnic. I can barely stand it.


I lined the totes in a large, vintage gingham and placed a small pocket in mine. After I made one for myself, a certain little girl in the house declared she needed one, too. I made her handles from the gingham so she can tell them apart. I am certain that she would try to claim my larger tote if they were identical.

And then last night (after bedtime) I made some lounge pants for her. She submitted her request for a matching pair yesterday when she saw mine. I didn't have enough cuff space left to make her hem, so I trimmed it in some leftover vintage red-gingham bias tape.


Now, if we really get our 80 degree weather today, it might start feeling a little like spring and summer. Have a great weekend, friends.

The totes and the pants are great!!! That sheet looks different everytime I see it made up. I looked, without luck, this weekend for old sheets. Found lots of old buttons though : )

Love the tote. Red gingham sums up picnics for me too. We have a huge wicker hamper we've started using for picnics now I've taken the books out. I really ought to line and pad it in gingham.

I love all the things you've made from the sheet.

Reusable Swiffer WetJet Cloths

I promised myself that, when I bought a box of Swiffer WetJet refills at the wholesale club, it would be the last box I bought. Something had to be done. Now, to be honest, part of the reason was to help the environment, but the other part was because I was tired of running out of those darn things. I took some towels, folded them in half cut them into 5" widths. (The towel was just about 25" or so from side to side when flat.) Then I cut two 5" pieces of elastic and serged it all together. Two layers of toweling and two elastic strips. That's it. (The finished piece was approximately 4.75" x 12.") Within minutes I had a stack of eight. Slide them on and mop away. You will have a clean floor and have saved one more thing from ending up in the landfill. Now, if I can just do something about the cleaning liquid ... Something environmentally-friendly, economical, and won't cause further pain to my arthritic back.

It's that time of year again. The one that seems to come faster and closer every year. Yes, today I am 39. (That means I'm almost 40! Aaaahh!) To keep in tradition with years' past , I decided to do a list of things you might not know about me . (My best friend loves these posts, so this is in honor of her. You know who you are.) I ran 1 3/4 miles this morning. I gained 3-4 pounds after Sawyer weaned himself this year. Since starting to run, Joe has said that my thighs are "as tight as when we were first married." I didn't realize my thighs weren't tight. Hmmm. I guess six kids can do that to you. I need a new mattress. We bought our last mattress when I was in labor with Carter . That was ten years ago. We also bought a set of bunk beds that day. I want a new sofa. Actually two new sofas. I'm waiting until Sawyer is potty-trained. I'm planning on training him as soon as school lets out in June.
