Goodness

I had a few minutes to run into the thrift store earlier in the week. Because they no longer carry sheets, I decided to look in housewares. My new first stop. I found two vintage Pyrex bowls. One solid harvest gold Cinderella mixing bowl and an Autumn Harvest mixing bowl (which is in near perfect condition).

I don't usually look in the book section, because I am too overwhelmed there and, frankly, there are usually no real treasures. I found a Goosebumps book, which I don't think we have; a Martha Stewart Christmas book; and this vintage sewing book: How to Make Clothes that Fit and Flatter. Once I learn the mystery of fitting and flattering clothes, I'll let you know.

So, Lera, what is that lovely striped fabric below? That, my friends, is a sheet. I know. Imagine my surprise as I was circling housewares I noticed a few pillowcases and sheets. What? Could it be true? Could they be carrying sheets again? After all of my lamenting, was it just in vain? The answer is quite possibly yes. There were a few sheets. Actually, four sheets. All the same vintage stripey-ness.

I decided I needed answers and that I would go find the manager. I'm happy that I did because she was a nice lady. Bertha said they are only putting out "the best of the best." When I questioned her opinion of "the best of the best," she said "nice ones." I told her I was interested in vintage sheets with fun prints and she asked, "like orange flowers?" She then agreed to hold aside all sheets that fit that description in a bag for me as long as I promised I would pick them up every other week. Uh, I can handle that! She said I can even call her instead of stopping by to make sure there are some. So, my sheet obsession may prevail after all. Sorry if I alarmed you or caused you any undue stress.

And, thanks to a local friend, I have my feelers out. Her grandmother/aunt (?) works at a thrift store in a different part of the county and gave her this tablecloth. She said that pink is not her color and she thought I might like it.

It is embossed pink linen and absolutely beautiful. In fact, it would make a pretty dress ... I'm not going to cut it up. I'm not going to cut it up. I'm not going to cut it up. (yet)

And Kat also found a vintage apron I might like. I don't like it, I love it. Thanks, Kat.

And last, but not least, Julia emailed me last week and said she had a few pendants she thought I might like. We arranged a mini-swap and I received three pendants, two fun gingham ribbons and some gingham fabric. I've already attached bails to the pendants. All I need to do is string them. I'm enjoying the gingham love. Thank you, Julia.

Whewww! Thank goodness your sheet obsession can continue. I feel so much relief for you!
Great thrifting finds. I especially could use a page or two in that sewing book....the sizes for these vintage patterns I have are a bit different than I am used to....
have a wonderful day!

3 cheers for the shop manager! I was getting quite concerned about you getting off the beaten track going down some dark alley and asking a didgy sort "pssst know where i can score some sheets". LOL

Love the stripey apron-well done for sewing with the children around.

Goodness is right!!! OH MY!!

I love that Pyrex and that stripey sheet is VERY cool.

I think I'll have to go to that thrift store and say "Lera sent me for her sheets" and not tell you. :)

Glad you liked them. The table cloth would so make a fab dress.

I'm laughing at Melanie's comment... ;o)

How wonderful that the manager was willing to help you out. Positive customer service seems to be so rare these days.

I'm glad that you can still have your sheets!!

Woo Hoo! yea Bertha!
Wow! You are like their VIP customer now!! So fancy pants!

I did my best to channel you and the other fabu thrify gals last week- see today's post. I might not have anyone setting aside items for me (yet, that is!) but I was pretty proud nonetheless. :)

I love LOVE that pink sheet. Tough call on tablecloth vs dress. I'm pretty sure a dress or two will win out in the end though.

way to make friends with the thrift store manager. I can't wait to see your collection expand week by week. (and we need to talk about that undue stress that you caused me.)
Phew, that is great news indeed. Can you just imagine, the store manager is saving them all just for you. No one else. You get them all! How cool is that?!!

Good, I was concerned you would have withdrawal symptoms.

I saw some pyrex at a thrift store while I was waiting to go in for dental surgery last week, and thought of you.

I am amazed with what you score at thrift stores. I am lucky if I can find a stuffed toy for my dog that doesn't have beans in the butt.
Can't wait to see what you turn those gingham pieces in to.
