Trick or Treat Bags

A few years ago I bought a few yards of clearanced Halloween fabric. I planned on making the children Trick or Treat bags. Again, that didn't happen. I made a compromise. I bought ready-made black canvas bags (3 for $6 at Walmart) and appliqued the children's initial on the front. I would like to switch out the handle to make it match the applique ... Maybe next year ...

Today is the last day to submit your Candy Corn projects!

I wanted to express my appreciation for all of your comments yesterday. I am so grateful to this community that is willing to mourn with those who mourn and comfort those in need of comfort. I am so thankful for all the prayers and fasts that are being offered on Caitlin's and her family's behalf. Thank you. Mere words cannot express my gratitude. I wish I could hug all of you.

Taylor and I attended the funeral last night, with friends and family (Joe is out of town again). It was a beautiful service. We laughed. And cried. And tried not to cry many, many times. It was hard to look at anyone who was crying, because it just made us cry.

When I saw Matt's mother, my heart broke all over again. I have never seen her look so beautiful and graceful. I could see the pain in her eyes, yet she tried to put a smile on her face. As she faced one of the hardest days of her life. I know she was trying to be strong for her children. I have seen my mother wear this face many times, over the past six years. She has always been strong for us, although in private she is not. I saw this in Matt's mother last night. It's what mothers do.

What an unspeakable tragedy. I am so sorry for the family and for your ward family. It's always such a devastating loss to lose a young person. I, too will be remembering them in our family prayers.
Take care, Lera.

May your children fill those bags to the brim with yummy treats! :)

Those are great bags!

I can't even imagine what Matt's mother must be going through. It must be truly devastating. We're keeping all involved in our prayers.

Beautiful bags Lera I'm sure you'll have those handles sewn soon and probably with a corn candy applique on the other side. :-)

Good that you were able to support Matt's family. It will mean a lot to them that they were supported at this time. I think sometimes it's after you've done the official stuff that you can get down to the real grieving and healing.

Somewhere I once read or heard that all we can really do for others is show up. We can't take away their pain, we can't fix the world, but we can show up. Show that we care. Show our love. Matt's family will so appreciate your showing up with support and love, now and in the future as they stuggle with this great loss.

And I REALLY wanted to do some candy corn project, but it just is not going to happen. Darn it. But I've really enjoyed all the cute entries and your inspired creations. Maybe next year.

Hugs to you!

ok, the trick or treat bags are just darling! I love the initial idea.

reading the bit about matt's mother (and yours, too) gave me goosebumps. I hope I'm never in those shoes. I don't know that I could handle it.
