Late-Night Sewing

I was sewing late last night. Why, you ask? Joe's out of town again this week. He recently found out that he will be traveling three out of four weeks. He will be home for weekends, mostly, so I guess it could be worse.

His bosses (men, of course) planned this trip for him and other co-workers during the week of a holiday. Very thoughtful ... not. Everyone he works with and for is either divorced, almost-divorced, or unhappily married. They don't have family to worry about.

The children and I are driving up to visit him this afternoon and staying through Thursday morning. We're going to Sesame Place because Anheuser-Busch gives military members free family passes every year (since September 11th) to active-duty service members and their families. I think we still need to buy two tickets, because our family has exceeded the amount of tickets they gift.

So last night, when the last little one was tucked in bed and kissed goodnight, I went to my sewing machine.

I made Sawyer, my chunky baby, some summer clothes. I appliqued two of the tank onesies and made coordinating shorts. Now, the solid blue onesie was actually made to go along with these shorts because somehow the shirt is missing. (I'm afraid I may have tossed it into the trashcan that is near the baby's clothes basket in the laundry room by mistake.) I made the pair of shorts as a backup pair. I think I may even make another shirt. (The red matches my new bedroom pillows.)

Now, I need your opinion on the striped/dotted outfit. Yay? Or nay? Is it too over the top? I haven't stitched it down yet, because I'm still trying to decide its fate. (The dotted fabric is Alexander Henry's "Pop Dots," which I love.)

And I made a pair of shorts to match the birdie shirt and the tie onesie (the one in my banner). I had planned on making all of the pants into shorts, but he still wears the pants on cooler days and to church, so I wanted to save them. I also cut out about four more pairs of shorts to match the other onesie/pant outfits I made.

I'm sorry that Joe has to be away that much! That is so sucky that they scheduled the trip during the holiday week.

I've heard Sesame Place is a lot of fun. I'm waiting for Isaiah to be a little older to bring him there.

I think you don't need the polka dot fabric on the onesies. Or maybe just make it a little smaller. The outfits are cute!

we took Coleman to Sesame Place when I was pregnant with Jackson. One of our best trips ever. We had such a good time!!!! I hope ya'll have a wonderful time!!! I know about Joe being gone. With the price of gas, Tony has been staying in MS during the week. Comes home for swim meets on Thursday! I hate it. Doesn't it feel like limbo? With a deployment or TAD things are more settled, can for a routine, but the not knowing of the in and out, home and gone, is enough to drive a person crazy!!!! Hang in there, and keep that boredom bucket stocked!!!

I love the dots and I love the striped onesie, but I don't think I'd put them together (sorry... that was really hard to type - I hate being a nay-sayer).
Joe having to travel so much (and esp. over a holiday) is no fun at all (except for the late-night sewing, huh?!). Hang in there!

Yea to the dots and stripes!

Boo to the the bosses that keep sending Joe out of town. But yes, it could be worse - at least he's home on weekends.

Yea to fun at Sesame Place. Have a great, safe holiday!

I think stripes and dots on a baby are just fine.

But, then again, I never, ever put Jack in anything that screamed "boy" when he was a baby (footballs, trucks, etc.). So, maybe I am not a good judge. LOL

Yay! Keep the dots. The more fun the better.

Hi, I have been reading for a while and this is my first post. I really enjoy reading about all that you accomplish.
Oh I love LOVE the dots and stripes together. At what other age can a little boy get away with a super fun outfit? Go for it- adorable!!

six kids! I'm one of six (the oldest).

I love the dots. Do you have a pattern to recommend for those shorts?
