Saturday

Taylor and Carter were invited to set up a lemonade ("lemonaid") stand at Aunt Lettie's yard sale on Saturday. They made about $5 each. Which they promptly "spent" on stuff at the yard sale. Joe's mother called in the afternoon to tell us that they were getting bored (around 2:30 p.m.) and they were trying to buy everything at the yard sale. We decided to go pick them up before they came home with all manner of junk. I was getting nervous. Especially when I saw Carter walking around with this in his stash:

But then the sweetest thing ever (ever!) happened. I found out that Carter was shopping for me. He walked around the yard sale looking for things to "buy" for me. Be still my heart.

The sugar bowl, he thinks, would make a great flower vase. He said the flower can pop right out the hole in the lid. And the salt and pepper shakers? Well, he just wanted something fancy for the house. And then I found out that they belonged to Joe's great-grandmother (amongst many already-sold items). Oy.

So those are my treasures. (Of course there were others, like the cheap wicker baskets and the teddy bear figurines which he picked out for Spenser.) He's a sweet guy.

Joe and I (and the four younger kids) hit a few yard sales Saturday morning, too. I found the little green and yellow plate at one sale with a new Star Wars puzzle for the boys' boredom bucket. The Town & Country Pyrex casserole dish and set of four vintage trays came from Aunt Lettie's yard sale. I bought those at the end of the day for half price. They were a bargain.

Joe found some things for our old house. (The man at this yard sale was something else. We didn't buy much, but it was a fun "trip" to say the least. I think that man had too many drug "trips" in his past. He had some funky, psychedelic, reptilian thigh-high boots with a solid, wooden chunky heel that he said were worn to a Hendrix concert. He wouldn't admit to being the one who wore them, but he talked with complete confirmation, in third person.)
I found Spenser a tiny tea set with strawberries and Joe's mother sent over some vintage Strawberry Shortcake napkins she found in her house. The original price of those napkins says "3 for $1.00."

After the yard sale, Joe and the kids washed both cars.
And Mason sported a lightsaber on each hip. You never know when you might need one. Or two.

Aren't yard sales fun??? Especially when you find such great stuff!!!

I love the pyrex dish.

Joe hates garage sales. I won't take him because as much as he complains, he has to look at EVERYTHING and really slows me down.

aww your kids are too cute! I love that he was buying things for you!

John won't even drive me to a garage sale. He is much like Karyn's Joe. And forget about trying to take him to the thrift store. He follows me like a lost puppy until I finally give in and just leave!
