A Skirt and Happy Mail

On Sunday at church I taught a short lesson to the young women on "Home skills you can learn as a youth that will benefit you as an adult." I was asked to include frugality, gardening, canning, haircutting, and sewing. Part of my props was this thrifted sheet with strawberries on it. At the end of my lesson I showed the girls the sheet and asked them what could be made with it. They made suggestions (skirt, bag, pajama bottoms, tablecloth, curtains, cloth napkins, dresser scarf, "socks" ??, etc.) and then I promised them that very soon they would see it again made into something.

That first something turned into wrap-around skirt last night. I am going to wear it to our informal Wednesday night activity tonight. There will be a few more strawberry things popping up in the next few weeks as I try to use up bits and pieces of the sheet. Again, I claim, all in the name of church.

And on Monday I received this most lovely peg bag from Diane, the same wonderful reader (who remains blogless), that sent me the cheery cherry fabric. It is completely, completely adorable. It is beautifully sewn. I'm almost afraid to keep it outside. I'm afraid bugs will try to take it over or birds will poop on it. It's so awesome that I think Spenser thought it was a dress for her. She asked, "What's that, Mommy?!?" in her most excited voice. I won't be surprised if I find her trying to "try" it on.

And thanks for all of your comments and "support" yesterday. I enjoyed reading each one of them. And to answer the question about Joe: He did comment anonymously that for a split second he was like "What?" and then he remembered the date. Poor guy. At least he wasn't too disappointed. See what he has to put up with?

That sounds like a great activity you did with the girls. I'm sure they will be VERY impressed with your skirt!

And, look at that cute peg holder! I'd be afraid to use it too!

Cute skirt. Great topic. Although I'm pretty sure my kids won't let me near their hair anymore. ;)

I had to look three times to make sure that darling dress was a peg holder. Really? Very, very sweet!

I had to laugh when I saw the fabric. My hubby looked over my shoulder and said 'Hey we have those pillowcases!'
Neither of us can remember where they came from or where the sheet sets are or if we had them ever. Hummm. I love the skirt! I may turn mine to a pillowcase dress for my daughter.
