Thrifted

I'm sure you are wondering if Lera sews anymore. The truth is, I've been sick most of this week and sewing has just not happened. Sadly. Even with prime sewing night opportunities (Joe is out of town), I just can't do it.

How about I show you a few things I picked up at a rummage sale last week instead?

While we were out a few weeks ago, we passed a sign that a church was having a rummage sale the following week. (It was never listed in the newspaper, which surprised me. That teaches me to keep my eyes open more often.)

Anyway, I had not been to a church rummage sale in say, what, uh, 20 years. Seriously. And that was one that our youth group had at our church to raise money for a trip to Kings Dominion. I just don't see rummage sales advertised often, so when I saw "the sign," I knew I had to go.

Let's just say it was an experience to be remembered. I had Spenser and Sawyer with me and they were excellent. I couldn't ask for better thrifting partners. Sawyer was in his stroller and, when my arms were too full, Spenser pushed him for me. The rummage sale was a little stinky. Literally. I had to breathe through my mouth most of the time, which made my nose and ears clog up.

Anyway, I found some fun things, like the produce apron and the blue polka-dotted sheet. I also found the above vintage punch bowl set. Ladle included. The set has twelve cups, with one handle being broken off (but included). Sadly, I have broken off another handle since then. The set was a mere $4.

And then I found these "ovenwares." The one in the back in an unmarked casserole dish/mixing bowl thing with the coolest trees on it. The front one looks like a vase, but it is by Fire King and says "ovenware" on the bottom. I have no clue what it could be used for. Any ideas?

Oh, and the strawberry tablecloth underneath? Found in a pile of linens. I think it was a sheet in its former life. I bought a ton of stuff and my total bill was $10.

Well, I was about to recommend that the three of you (Lera, Spenser and Sawyer) sat down on the floor in a circle and have a 'laughter' session, Lera being over dosed on night time sewing, Spenser and Sawyer on overdose with the 'white stuff'; but Hey, Thrifting is a better alternative! LOL! Lovely loot! Lera - you go gurl!

I just adore that punch bowl! Looks perfect for a summer afternoon barbeque. Great find!

I drove past a big church the other day and they had sign for a rummage sale. We were going out of town that weekend...drats! I am definitely going to hit some after seeing your finds.

I bought that exact same white vase (well, I thought it was a vase- I put some flowers in it already and everything) a few weeks ago at a thrift shop! Seriously! I didn't even think of the possiblity that it could be something else! If you figure it out, let me know!
Part of the beauty of thrifting is you can use your bargains any way you please. So put flowers in that white thing or bake a chocolate souffle in it! I cut up a pair of Carole Little pants a while back to recover the mat on a picture I was reframing--but I'd only paid fifty cents for them so who cares!

I am a huge fan of white-ware of any kind so this post is just full of too much good stuff for me! Great finds. The tablecloth, too... Score!

Feel better, my dear. And I am actually a little relieved that you're not up to sewing, my dear. You put the rest of us to shame.

Have a good weekend!

I'm absolutely certain my mom has a larger vase like that bumby white one. but it has a really frilly fluted edge, almost like a lace cuff.

i hope you're feeling better soon. what a shame to waste those prime sewing ops (in this house, we'd have to call them PSO).

Interesting. I would never think to look under a vasey looking thing for fire king. lovely stuff. i love those trees. love them.

Oh my gosh! We had the exact same white polka dot jar/vase thingy when I was a kid! EXACTLY THE SAME! We used it for all of our barrettes and pony tail holders. My mom kept it in the bathroom so we could keep them all in the jar. I remember one time my sister and I made our babysitter sit while we put every single thing from the jar in her hair! I wish I had a picture of that! : )

Well done Lera! I think the ovenware bit might just be part of the company's stamp and show that it could be used in an oven. Like you I'd use it as a vase.
Yet more wonderful vintage finds. Love that punch set.

Stick a tealight in the hobnail vase and you will be pleasantly surprised at the beautiful glow it casts.
I have the exact same punch bowl...love how the cups hook on the bowl.

My mom says the white one is called "hobnail glass". I found one at Goodwill that looks like the one you have in the picture.
