A Dress and a What?!


So I finished another dress. It, too, is from a thrifted sheet. I think the print is very summery and fun in a 70's kind of way. I really think I am in love with the idea of dresses. This is the first time in many (many) years that I've been able to wear them. I've been pregnant and/or nursing for over twelve years and, since Sawyer decided to wean himself (yes, he never nursed again after "the ear incident"), I feel like I have a newfound freedom. I can wear dresses! I'm sure this phase will pass soon. Just bear with me ...

And look who's on the rooftop! I did get a photo of a sniper. (In fact, I have two photos.) I was looking through my 200+ photos from my trip and, lo and behold, I see a familiar black dot atop the White House. I zoomed in, cropped the photo and there he is! (There were more than one up there. We saw two together at one point, that's when I photographed the tip of a rifle.)

And thank you for all of your kind and supportive comments over the past two days. It's so nice to have others as excited and happy for me as I was. You guys are great.

You are a dress making machine! LOL I really love the fabric on this one, very 70's.

I know what you mean about being able to wear dresses again. I had the same deal with being pregnant and/or nursing. Even though Ava still nurses, it isn't very often, so I am able to wear things that don't have to be pulled up at a moments notice LOL

Yes, it was about the time that I was pregnant and nursing that I gave up dresses, and I'm now thinking it is time to add some to my closet.

What a fantastic week you have had. And what a thrill to visit the White House - thanks for sharing it all - including the snipers!

Hi Lera! Congrats on a memorable day! I too am a military wife, albeit a national guard one, but I am sure you know that these days the guard gets just as much action as the active troops. So glad to have YOUR service (not your husbands) recognized. I live in Maryland also, in an historic home dating to 1862 and would love to get to know crafty people in my area. your dress is sooooooooo fantastic! I wish I had your figure, I'd live in dresses. (I've got me some big hips.)

and I remember being thrilled to be able to wear dresses after weaning, too. (it hasn't been all that long ago...just a year, I guess.)

That dress is really the cutest. It kills me to think that someone was using that fabric as a sheet at some point - it's way better as a dress.

Reusable Swiffer WetJet Cloths

I promised myself that, when I bought a box of Swiffer WetJet refills at the wholesale club, it would be the last box I bought. Something had to be done. Now, to be honest, part of the reason was to help the environment, but the other part was because I was tired of running out of those darn things. I took some towels, folded them in half cut them into 5" widths. (The towel was just about 25" or so from side to side when flat.) Then I cut two 5" pieces of elastic and serged it all together. Two layers of toweling and two elastic strips. That's it. (The finished piece was approximately 4.75" x 12.") Within minutes I had a stack of eight. Slide them on and mop away. You will have a clean floor and have saved one more thing from ending up in the landfill. Now, if I can just do something about the cleaning liquid ... Something environmentally-friendly, economical, and won't cause further pain to my arthritic back.

My Littlest Man

Tomorrow my littlest man has to have surgery. It all started about last summer when I noticed some enlarged lymph nodes on his neck. (My father has non-Hodgkin lymphoma , so I am extremely paranoid cautious about this stuff.) I brought it to the attention of our doctor, but she said he had fluid in his ears and maybe it was just because he was getting sick and put him on antibiotics. But they were still there. Then I took him back in for something and mentioned it again. She looked in his ears and saw fluid in his ears again, so she put him back on antibiotics. But they were still there. Joe and I watched them for a few months, and when it was time for his well checkup, I informed her that they were still there and hadn't changed. I think it was at that time she noticed some in his groin, too. Anyway, she sent us to an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist.
