Another Too-Big Outfit

It was this shirt that I saw and loved last week. I was thinking how I wanted to make some for Spenser. So, when I found this pillowcase in my use-immediately pile, I knew it was destined to become a dress for Spenser. (I ended up using the basics from this tutorial.)

And some yellow gingham ribbon from Julia. I think it turned out cute. Too bad it's about 3 sizes too large and she won't be able to wear it for a few more years ... I think I have a problem lately with making things too big.

After I made it, Amandajean posted a cute shirt for her little girl. I really like her style, better than the one I made. Maybe next try ...

And, I also made a new dishtowel apron (using Randi's tutorial) which was requested for a new step-niece. I have made several aprons from this tutorial for all of my "older" nieces (the 8 and older group). The younger set of girls is Spenser and a younger niece.

Hi Lera, lovely dress fabric! I think you saw either a baby car seat or a set of bamboo shelves in The Maze. I popped in there today after looking at the photo and seeing something which matched the new bureau. It turned out to be a cupboard on barley twist legs but in very bad condition needing some plane-ing sanding and re-staining. On top of all that the proce was £55! EEK!

The apron is sweet too. I don't know how you manage so much real sewing. I've only managed part of a bag and some lav bags today.

Very sweet yellow dress (at least you know she'll grow into it.) I just finished my 2nd pillowcase dress (also yellow - see blog). Great pattern. I used a very similar one here: http://www.jenleheny.com/pillowcase-dress-instructions
I don't know how you find the time to sew, but I'm on a mission to do the same. This novice is inspired by all the great things that you make! Thank you!

I love these projects! You know what they say, it's better to make it too big than too small! :)

Nothing's worse than spending time making something (that your clearly excited about) only to have it not fit! UGH!! I hate that, too!

oh man! You were able to use it. See, I knew you'd make a good home for an orphaned piece of ribbon.

Too big is better than too small... Spenser will have something to look forward to!

Any chance you could wear it as a shirt? You're so tiny (in your pictures, I think! LOL) that you probably could. I just bought my sister-in-law a similar one from Etsy, and she loves it!

I was going to say better too big than too small, too. and since it's from a vintage pillow case, it's just going to get better with age!

thanks for the link! :)
It is such a pity the dress is too big but I always say too big is better than too small :) At least she will get to wear it later.

Oh man! I hate when I do that! Of course, mine always works the opposite way... everything's too small.

Cute little dress. I am sorry the dress is too big, but at least she will have a really cute dress to wear after her next growth spurt ;) I am sooo bummed we missed the slurpees. I will have to remember it next year.

I hate when that happens! Getting it just right is tricky :)

I love the yellow fabric though, very summertime.

I love that pillowcase dress!! Too bad it's too big. Oh well, she'll grow into it, it's not a waste.

I also looked at Amandajean's top. Cute!

Better eventually wearable than not at all. It's cute. The last one I did for Fidge was the same way!

Very cute! You always make the cutest things.

At least it's too big and not too small. She'll be able to wear it later on:)
