A Servant Apron

Yes, I sewed. Are you as surprised as I am? I think (and I could be wrong) that this is the first time I've sewn since school let out. Three weeks ago.

Anyway, this idea was floating around in my head for a few weeks since a recent (weekly Friday night) Family Movie Night. We watched the newer version of A Little Princess. There was a cute little servant girl who had to live in the attic and wore the sweetest apron. I kept thinking I needed to make one for Spenser.

The one in the movie was actually gray (or brown ?) striped, not bold red and white. I just used what I had. This red and white is actually some vintage stuff I had lying around. Unfortunately, all the vintage gray and brown shirting that I had, I donated to Purple Heart a few months ago. I just had too much and had to purge. I'm kicking myself now, because it would have been perfect.

Anyway, I used red bias tape around the arm and neck holes. And made a little pocket for the front, trimmed in bias tape. On the back, there are two buttons at the top for closure. That's it. The rest is open in the back. Pretty simple. And servant-esque.

(Spenser did request another pocket because, "I loooooove pockets.")

so cute. I love the stripes so much. I'm sure you'll be making more of these :)
It looks really cute. Of course more pockets are needed ;p

Too cute! I hear you on the need to purge, then a little regret. I got rid of 5 boxes of fabric before Christmas, and now I think of things to do with some of it, and then I am like oh yeah I got rid of that! I still have plenty of fabric, but that is always how it goes (which is why I am the packrat I am).

What a striking apron! Pockets? certainly need more than one for an apron!

Very cute!
Did you make the pattern up yourself (clever lady!)?

very cute! I love the red and white!
I also share Spensers love of pockets. I shove things in my pockets all the time...it's great until I forget to empty them and a green crayon goes through the dryer....

So adorable! Nice work. And I am with Spenser, I loooove pockets too!

I am with you, I don't think I have sewn in weeks. Sad! Its kind of like exercising for me, when I get out of the habit, its hard to start up again.

Absolutely fabulously cute and I gotta agree with Spenser about pockets. I also luuurve pockets. Brown or Grey might have been boring :-) the red and white stripes are striking. What a way to break your sewing fast.

it's cute - now if you could just get her to do everything you ask her to, just like a servant, right?
