Reading

Here is the stack of summer reading books I brought with me. So far I've read the top three:

The Gatecrasher (bought at Target for $11)
Catherine, Called Birdy (from the thrift store)
The Midwife's Apprentice (library book)

I have professed my love of Sophie Kinsella's books, and The Gatecrasher is a book she wrote under the name Madeleine Wickham. It was a good one and I look forward to reading more.

Other books that I brought along are:

Kira-Kira (library book, currently reading)
Out of the Dust (library book, which I put down after several pages)
Sarah, Plain and Tall (library book to read to Spenser)
A Gathering of Days (library book)

Lately my criteria for a book is a juvenile book and a Newberry Honor book. I was quite pleased that our library has a section in the juvenile books for Newberry!

Also read this summer:

Caddie Woodlawn (which every time I think about the name I call it Caddie Woodshack by mistake, maybe because of Caddyshack)
Which brings me to this: What are you reading this summer?

Hi Lera. I've read all of the Shopaholic series. Pam just read a Madeline Wickham called Cocktails for Three. I wonder why she had a pen name?
I've read While My Sister Sleeps and now reading Illumination Night by Alice Hoffman. Neither are very light reading.

I think Madeline Wickham is her real name, Sophie Kinsella is the pen name - but yes, I've also wondered why she used a pen name. I also have Gatecrasher on my bookshelf to read! I got it thru PaperBackSwap, you should check it out.

I've been re-reading the last two Harry Potter books in anticipation of seeing the movie. I've been reading Narnia with the kids - we're up to The Horse and His Boy which is our 5th. Next we'll start HP book 1 with them.

I have Caddie Woodlawn that I bought from the book order last year but haven't read yet. Is it good?

I just found your blog, and am boldly going to comment.I loooved Caddie Woodlawn as a kid, and have always been a huge Laura Ingles Wilder fan. Elizabeth Enright is someone I would look into if your running short on fabulous children reads, especially "Gone Away Lake" and "Thimble Summer". Also "Mr. Mysterious and Company" by Sid Fleischman, although I would recommend most of his books...

Pathetically, I haven't read much this summer. I read "Three Cups of Tea" by Greg Mortenson, and yesterday I started "My Life in France" by Julia Child. So far I love it!
