Almost Gave Me a Freaking Heart Attack

I must be a little sensitive today. I don't know why. Earlier the wind blew our flag buntings that hang under our front windows up in the air and I thought someone was peeking in the window.

But the scare I just had now was a million times worse.

I've been in Spenser's room doing the big summer-fall wardrobe switcharoo when Sawyer disappeared. It's not unusual for him to walk around the house at his free will, so I didn't pay much attention. I called his name a few times and figured he fell asleep on the sofa. I asked Spenser to find him for me while I finished folding the last of the clothes. And she said she couldn't find him.

I scrambled from room to room and he was nowhere to be found.

I did another quick search, checked all the doors (locked from the inside), calling his name, and still could not find him. I thought I was going to barf. My stomach was flip-flopping every which way. I almost called Joe. I almost called neighbors to organize a search (yes, I am totally not kidding).

When I spied a little bit of blond hair peeking out of the pillows and blankets. (It bed-linens wash day.)

Good grief, kid. Don't do that again.

Besides being sweaty and drooly, he is fine.

Mama, however, is not.

I think I aged a few years on that one.

So not cool.

He's so tricky!! Was he just hiding or did it start out as hiding and he fell asleep? I can totally relate with you!! That is one of the worst feelings ever!! Give that trickster a hug and kiss for me!

Love, Katie

UGH. My little brother used to do that to my mom. He would burrow UNDERNEATH 6 folded blankets that were stored UNDERNEATH a coffee table. He couldn't hear her even if he WAS awake.

I totally know that "barf"y feeling you're talking about. SCARY-OLA!

tristan has scared me like that several times. except he was supposed to be in bed asleep and he was at first but later at night i always check on them again before i go to sleep. he was gone. several times i have found him under the bed, under someone else's bed or in someone else's bed but this time he was no where and i was scared and woke up cory and aiden and lidia to search for him. we searched the whole house and then aiden found him. he was in the tiny hall closet floor curled up asleep under the bottom shelf with the door closed.

I know that feeling! Yuk! We once lost our 2 year old. (She 12 now!) On a 10 acre property with 3 dams! It took us 45 minutes to find her and her 2 year old partner in crime. Very stressful!!!

Wonder if he was playing "hide and seek" and fell asleep. Once my nephew crawled under a clothes rack in a store and fell asleep while my sister and I were shopping. I thought my sister would die right there in the store.

My granddaughter's kindergarten teacher lost her last week. She disappeared after music class. They found her in the music room behind a door crying, because she hates music class-the teacher is too abrupt for her. Holy cow-that kid has a long way to go!

Glad that you did NOT have a heart attack and that he's ok. It's a great story though.

I love to fall asleep in the laundry, too. I'm sorry to tell you that he may not grow out of that habit.

But I am sure glad you found him.

Poor mom. And all this time he was napping away peacefully.
