Cloth Napkins

Image
Happy Earth Day! Last year I made a bunch of cloth napkins using the rolled hem feature of my serger. And, while we used them a lot in the beginning, I kind of forgot about them and paper napkins crept back into our lives. (Although, I must admit that paper are better for cleaning up spilled lemonade and for packing in my boys' lunches. I'm afraid I'd never see them again if they were in a lunchbox.) I am trying to be more mindful of our waste. I find myself asking, "Can I reuse, reduce, recycle, or repurpose this?" about every thing. I recently discovered our town has a receptacle just for paper recycling. That makes me giddy. We get tons of papers from school, so now I can load it up and drop them off at town hall. So, in honor of Earth Day, I am giving away this set of six cloth napkins. They are made from thrifted, vintage (therefore repurposed) sheets that are leftovers from various projects. If you'd like a chance to win them, please leave a comment on

Earth Day Legs

Image
Earth Day is coming! Are you ready? I found some cute little Earth Day socks at the store a month or so ago and decided that Spenser just needed another reason ( or not ) to have some more legwarmers to add to her collection. This is one of two pairs that I made for her, although Sawyer is the one modeling them this time. With his cute little piggies and rolled-up camo pants. And in celebration of Earth Day, we have an extra pair to give away. Just leave a comment on this post today and I will pick a name Tuesday (Tuesday as in tomorrow ) morning. If you have anything earthy to say, or any tips on how to be kind to our earth, I would love to hear it, although it is not mandatory when commenting. Legs details: These are shorties compared to my usual legwarmers. They are not the knee-high socks I usually use, so they will fit a younger/smaller child. They are comparable to the ones she wore on St. Patrick's Day . I would guess that they would fit a child up to age six or so, depe

Love Me Legs

Image
Valentine's Day is fast approaching. When you have a little girl in the house, it always seems like Valentine's Day. With the pinks. And the hearts. And all the girly stuff. So when I saw a pair of striped socks, I knew they would be loved as leg warmers. Year round. I didn't even notice the little "Love Me" hearts on the sides at first. She simply adores them. We made up a little, silly song about them. (I'll spare you.) Today, Spenser and I have an extra pair of Love Me Legs to give away. If you would like a chance to win, please leave a comment on this post. I'm guessing the legs would fit a child between the ages of four and ten (give or take). We'll pick a winner on Sunday evening. ( Sock FAQ : I have bought most of the socks at Walmart. They are ladies' knee-highs. They are on an end cap near the unmentionables right on the main aisle.) * * * * * * * * * * * Congratulations, comment #21: Diane of Little Birdies Nest! You are the winner of

Wintry Totes

Image
I've been using my candy corn totes since I made them. And, well, it's Christmas time. Well past candy-corn season. I've just been a little busy lately. (Santa's helpers are hard workers, you know.) I bought a few more plain canvas totes and got to work embellishing them. The first one is a snowman. I had just enough large white buttons to make him. Again, I embroidered brown stick arms. (Like my secret Christmas project .) And then I made a candy cane tote. (Sorry I can't show a better photo of them, it's so darn overcast here today.) Anyway, I decided to give away the candy cane tote . If you would like to enter to win, just leave a comment on this post. I will randomly draw a winner on Sunday evening. Let's see, how about you leave a comment telling me your favorite holiday treat or food. Any holiday. Any food. I don't know if I can decide which is my favorite. There are really so many. I love my buckeyes at Easter and my toffee and truffles at Ch

Holiday Pendants

Image
I couldn't resist a little candy cane pendant for myself. Which means a little girl needed one, too. And I have an extra one. To give away. If you would like a chance to win this candy cane pendant, leave a comment. And, if you will, tell me your favorite holiday song. It doesn't matter which holiday it is. Any old song will do. My favorite holiday song(s)? Well, it would be Mary's Boy Child by Boney M (go watch that video and laugh with me over that man's skinny legs!). Oh, and I have an A cappella version of Let Me Call You Sweetheart that I like, too. And I really like this Christmas album . It's different, but I love it. Leave a comment on this post by Sunday evening and I'll randomly pick a winner. Good luck. ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** Congratulations lucky #16 (the number randomly picked by Taylor)! Martha , please email me your address and I'll pop the pendant in the mail! Holiday Legs & A Giveaway

Image
Remember Rainbow Legs ? Well, since they are a big hit with the little girl in the family, I decided to make a few more pairs for her. Introducing Holiday Legs , also known as Candy Cane Legs and ... Rudolph Legs. And, because I'm feeling festive and full of holiday cheer, I am offering this pair of Candy Cane Legs in a giveaway. This is a brand-new pair, unworn. This would be a great gift for a little girl (or boy) on your gift list. They fit Spenser, who is four, and would probably fit any age child. [ I tried them on (not these, but Spenser's pair) and, while I have thin calves, they felt a little tight on me. I think it's the strings from the red that restricted full stretchability.] All you have to do is leave a comment on this post. I don't have any high demands. I'm not going to make you link back to me to be able to enter. Just leave a comment here. If you would like, help spread the holiday cheer by leaving a positive comment. It could be, "Hey! I l

Easter Embroidery

Image
There is a strange phenomenon going on in my house right now. It's kind of eerie. Eerily quiet . The four big boys are at school. Spenser is still sleeping. And Sawyer fell asleep on the sofa while I was in the shower. Except for the sound of my computer (and the sound of walking? on my roof or in my attic?? more spooky noises ), all is quiet. I think I like it. Without further ado, I want to announce the winner of Friday's Chocolate Peanut Butter soap giveaway : Miss Chris! Please send me your address, and I'll send you the soap. Congratulations! And here is the only bit of crafting I managed to do over the weekend. (I got pinkeye on Saturday and still have it. Yuck! ) A little Easter embroidery. These eggs were inspired by some ceramic (?) eggs my aunt gave me and my sister when we were younger. In the 70's. If I remember correctly, my sister's was polka dotted and I always liked hers more (kinda funny if you know how much I adore polka dots now). Mine was

Two

Image
Today is my second blogiversary . I have been jabbing my jaws for two years now. Two years. Time has flown by. I've had my blog longer than I've had Sawyer in my life, which seems totally weird because it feels like he's always been a part of my life. I have enjoyed documenting my thoughts and crafts, but, most of all, my family. It's amazing how much I have forgotten until I read some of my older posts. I have also loved meeting bloggers and seeking inspiration from their work. This crafty community is where it's at. You're a kind and generous bunch. As a token of my appreciation to my readers, I am offering a giveaway. I will be giving away not one, but two , things in honor of my second blogiversary. Two commenters will win a zippered pouch made from My Folklore fabric and a bar of my handmade chocolate-mint soap. This is what you need to do. Comment on this post and either: 1 - Tell me which post of mine was most memorable to you. (It can be a c

The Winner(s) and a Doll Quilt

Image
The winner(s) from yesterday's vintage doll dress giveaway : Sara ! AND Heidi ! With only two real entries, how could I pick only one? I will send both of you a set of doll dresses. Please email me with your addresses. (Sara, I know you're in the process of moving, so tell me where to send yours.) And here is the doll quilt I just finished. I use the term "doll quilt" loosely here, as it was really only two panels of fabric, batting and binding. There was no patchworking or piecing involved. Maybe I shouldn't use the term "quilt," as to not offend real quilts. The fabric is from this thrifted sheet . I used some vintage fabric for the binding. This was my first ever attempt at quilting. It's not very pretty. There was some puckering along the way. (See the line across the back? And at the binding? And ...) And a lot of blind-stitch confusion. (If it's supposed to be "blind," why is it so visible??? Am I doing it wrong? I know not.

Giveaway

You guys are too nice . Really. I never knew how many people have had their hair permanently changed due to pregnancy. I smiled with each of your comments. Especially those from my wavy-haired comrades. It seems that everyone, except Beki , had their hair turn wavy or curly after pregnancy. Beki was the odd-woman out. Her hair went straight. Lucky girl. The next time I see a wavy-haired lady, I'm going to "know" she's a mother. I might just even wink and nod at her in approval, like we're in a secret club together. Um. Okay. Maybe not. The real reason for this post is for a doll dress giveaway. Yep. It's time. I was waiting to give some to my sisters and friends, but for some reason, I keep forgetting to drag this big box of dresses with me everywhere I go. I decided to just offer two of the dresses that I have multiples of. First up, one blue floral and one yellow floral vintage doll dress with matching bloomers. These dresses have not been laundered by me (
