Take #1

Remember last week when I said I was trying to recreate the vintage apron pattern? Well, here is take #1. And, maybe the last take. What a pain in the neck to sew on all that trim! And the pocket? It wasn't supposed to be angled quite so much, but it's on! And there's something to be said about enduring to the end.

This is a view of the back, which I don't think I showed last week. I love the back. Really, it's a very cute apron, just not sewn perfectly. And I'd like to make more. I really would. Rather, I'd like to own more, maybe not sew them myself.

Note: This vintage apron was sewn from some vintage fabric that was gifted to me last year. I think the fabric in lower right of the top photo might be what I used on this apron.

Well done Lera! I think you recreated the apron perfectly.

WOW! I think you did a great job! I can see how that trim would be a pain, but I really do think it was worth the effort!

it's beautiful lera! I can imagine the trim being hard to sew. I love the fabric too!

it looks great. instead of adding all that trim how about making it totally reversible and then sew around the outsides with a top stitch to finish it off? (although, the trim really does add a lot to the overall design of the apron.)

Oh, but the trim is the perfect touch!

It looks great - the trim looks fab too! Maybe you're just so used to that quick serger and the trim seems extra laborious compared to a serger seam:).

That is a great apron! I own 1 (one) apron, a denim Trader Joe's apron; it covers all of me and it excellent for wiping my hands. You have inspired me to start shopping for some beautiful castoffs.

Yeah for you:)

I also love your dress in your previous post. It goes great with the yellow trim.

Love the colour combination you chose. Yes bias is fiddly- I used to use a lot of it on dog coat trims. Well done though for making something you love and will treasure all the more because so much effort went in to making it.

Oh, I remember making an apron for my mother back in the 50's in "sewing class" in high school. I was so proud of it and she wore it and wore it and wore it and wore it. And I had red piping all around it!
