Halloween Costumes
Sawyer, The Skunk.
I took the easy route for Sawyer and bought him a skunk costume from Old Navy. I thought about making it, but knew I would not have time. It was on sale for $15, so I probably couldn't have made it much cheaper.
Store-bought or handmade. He's stinkin' cute.
I made the tutu and leg warmers. I bought the long-sleeved leotard and opaque tights. She wore her hair in a bun. Too sweet.
I wanted to die when Mason announced he wanted to be a gorilla for Halloween. I honestly tried to change his mind. When he wouldn't have it, I agreed. I used Simplicity 2855. If I ever made it again, I'd buy a longer zipper and place it in the back. And then I'd leave the padded, pleather stomach as one piece.
Joe made a mask for Mason out of the leftover pleather. It didn't stay on so well, so halfway through trick or treating, it went into his bag.

What can I say? I made the orange bell-bottoms, bought a long-sleeved black shirt, and Joe made a mohawk out of two white chair pads. Joe designed it and sewed it.
Only a few passing kids knew who he was ...
I made the vest out of some vintage red and white fabric. He wore a long-sleeved white tee with some ruffly, elastic cuffs that I made. A black scarf on his head. A hoop earring and an eye patch.
The cuff.
(Taylor stayed at home and gave out candy.)

I love the skunk too. Isaiah wore a monkey costume from ON too, but I got it at the thrift store. I won't even tell you how much I paid for it ;)
aren't you a little glad that halloween is over for another year?
I love the gorilla!
All the costumes are adorable, of course - but I'm a sucker for striped leggings - that's a great ballerina costume :)
Happy halloween!
Great job by you too! And the skunk's cute! On the whole, very very very nice!
I am sure Taylor had fun giving out the candies too!
I love the cuff on the pirate, was an easy but effective idea, I'll have to try and remember that.
How did you make leg warmers? With a knit? Did you use a pattern?

I hope to sew like you by the time I am 60. I have 30 years to practice. I want to be able to say "I whipped up a bunting."
