The Balancing Act

Life is a balancing act. Sometimes it seems everything "comes due" at the same time. And it's a little nerve wracking. I have a lot of balls in the air and, thankfully, the end is in sight. I think.

I like to plan ahead and know what I'm doing each day. I don't usually make written lists. Just mental ones (which is not always a good thing).

Tonight we are giving the butterfly bags to the Living Legacy Foundation, so that's almost over. Kim and I have spent a few afternoons together sewing, fixing wonky bags, and stringing the bags. (Kim more than me, bless her.)

We are also having a program for the Young Women (ages 12-18) at church tonight and I was asked to make a DVD slideshow of the girls. That's almost finished.

I've been asked to give a soap demonstration for the women at church in March, but I don't know the date and I'm getting itchy about it. I have a bad feeling it's going to be on a Tuesday night, and that's a karate night in our family. With Joe and the Army, I can't plan ahead and expect he will be home early enough or be in town for said unknown date. Plus, they would like me to have a batch already made. And it takes four weeks to cure and, well, it's just next month. Yeah, getting itchy about that.

Today we were going to sit back and relax and finish Spenser's Valentines for preschool. No handmade again this year. When you need nearly 100 Valentines, you realize that the store-bought ones can be a time saver when you are near deficit in time. And energy. And I'm pretty sure my boys don't want to make them. Except my artist, Jackson.

Instead, we had a last-minute Valentines Day bash invite, so we are headed there this morning.

But, first things first. I need to go de-toothpaste the upstairs bathroom. Again.

For the sanity of your mother, boys, please keep the toothpaste on the toothbrush. Is it too much to ask? (Besides watching where you aim?)

It's too bad you can't know the date ahead of time for your soap demonstration. That would probably put your mind at ease.

Isn't it funny (at least for me) it seems I can go for weeks without anything big, and then when there is a week with a "big" thing, suddenly there are a million other "big" things. Ah. When it rains, it pours!

I'm a mental lister too - I keep trying to do something on my computer or on paper consistently, but I always fall back on my mental list. I usually do OK with just that, but occasionally (especially since I've been a Mom) it gets me in trouble! Here's wishing that all turns out well with your plans!

Good luck!

I had to e-mail the mother of two of my (boy) piano students yesterday- could you please help them in the bathroom? What I didn't tell her is they seem to be using the upturned toilet lid as a target...I've had to mop cups of pee off the bathroom floor every week. ewww...the mom was completely unfazed.

Oh, and BTW- I found some butterfly fabric in my stash, could you guys use it or are you finished?

Hugs, girl. You're not the only one. I was just saying yesterday that I felt a bit overcommitted right now... and our valentines and cookies aren't done yet, either. I'm not sure when we're supposed to get it all done. Yesterday I wrote down a very detailed list and managed to mark of a few things, which felt good.

keep it up... and good luck with the soap thing. That would make me itchy too...

That last little bit was the best! Keeping toothpaste on the brush and getting them to aim are tough challenges!

Good luck getting everything done!

Watching where they aim? I've never met a potty trained male (of any age) that can do that!! My husband has a "crashpad" in Boston (where he is based) and there are 45 guys that share a 3-story house (bunkbeds everywhere!). A dear friend of mine just looked at me one day and said "Wow. That's a lot of pee on the floor!!" I just about spit out my coffee!!

We all have those times where we have so many balls in the air that we just want to scream. The best part is finally getting to where you can see the end.
