Loving Old Photos

A few years ago (for Mom-Mom's 92nd birthday), I had the privilege of looking through her old photo albums for a DVD slideshow I was making as her gift. With each photograph I looked at, I saw how much she and my grandfather adored each other.

They were married just over sixty years when Pop-Pop suffered a fatal heart attack in their kitchen.

She had missed him terribly for almost thirteen years.

But I know they are together.

Right now.

And I imagine they look just like they did way back then. Young and beautiful. And in their prime. So, even in my sadness, I have happy thoughts. Happy that they have been reunited with one another. Happy to be their granddaughter. Happy with the faith that everything is okay.

Thank you for all of your comments and emails. I wish that I was able to reply to each one individually, but time and energy did not allow it. I was working on a new, updated DVD slideshow for Mom-Mom's viewing and funeral and we have a house of sick people. Five children at once. And me. Landing one sick Mason in the ER on Sunday night. I'm happy that three actually went to school today. For the first time in more than a week. Thank you for your kindness, sympathy, and compassion. I will never forget it.

Look at Mom-Mom's buff arms in the bottom photo. She used to be on a girls' softball team! Go, Mom-Mom!

What great photos! Isn't the peace knowing they are together great! My great grandmother died last year, 34 years after my great grandfather. I was so happy she could finally be with him. She called him Babe every single time she spoke of him. I hope your family recovers from the sickness soon. Hugs, Gail

Thanks for sharing these photos, Lera. They look like a special couple who certainly adored each other. (And whoa, her arms! We should all be so lucky.)

You're in my thoughts and prayers, girl. For all of it. Take of yourself, too. xoxo

Oh, Lera...I am so sorry to hear of your grandmas passing. It is always sad when someone we love so much has to return home. It is times like this that I am so grateful for an eternal perspective. When my grandma died a few years ago, I was very sad about her leaving all of us that were left behind, but the reunion that I knew she was having with her husband (who had been gone for over 60 years) and her first 4 babies that died at birth, must have been magnificant! That made me so happy for her.
I am hoping that you and your kids are feeling much better. An ER trip is never fun...
Loved the photos! :)

Fantastic photos. She was a beautiful dresser too from the look of those pics. I always think that people go back to the prime of their life too, when everything was good and they were extremely happy. I hope that your family gets better soon too.

I just said goodbye to my grandmother. You were lucky to be able to share yours with your kids, a luxury my future children won't have. All they will have is pictures and stories, yours will have wonderful memories, and both you and they should be (and I know are) greatful.

In the ER? THat sounds bad..hope all is well

I know what you mean about old photos. I love them too. I like to imagine what my grandparents were like when they were my age...

I'm glad people are starting to feel better (health wise) there.
