Another Wonky Patchwork Project


I've been needing a new dirty undergarment keeper for a long time. (Sorry, is that too much information?) My last one, made from a pillowcase, was getting raggedy and worn. I wasn't feeling the love anymore. It had to go.

This project has been on my mind for years. My mother has an awesome one that someone gave her 30+ years ago. It has several rows of rickrack all around the round opening. I love it. As much as I wanted one just like that, I decided to do a little something different. I used leftover linen from the dress and scraps of vintage sheets from past projects.

This turned out a little more narrow and longer than I anticipated. After I cut the hole, I realized that the bottom would have to be longer or the hole would be too low. I used a store pants hanger so, I stuck with the dimensions of that for the width. It's basically straight across the top, with a little place for the size that sticks up.

I'm now thinking of other possibilities. Maybe the boys need something to hold their dirty socks. It might encourage them to put them away instead of leaving them all over the floor ... But let's get real. They're boys! They'll still leave them on the floor. And they'll still make me crazy.

my mother made each child a bag for dirty laundry... mine was a lovely vintage doll ... the dress was the filling part and I just remember one of my brothers one ... a big wale with a wide open mouth!!

This is so cute. I love the patchwork detail. And now you have me wondering if this would work for my 12 year old....I'm pretty sure it wouldn't, but what a blessing if it did!

that's really cute! I have been wanting to make my sister a diaper stacker (for her baby's cloth diapers) and this would be a great design if I just boxed out the bottom a little bit. I love the strip of patchwork and the ric rac detail, too.

My mom made us a larger one that had a zipper on the bottom for all of our dirty cloths when we were kids. I just had her make another one for our bathroom since our bathroom is so small and clothes end on the floor even with my nagging. Its awesome. Your's is very cute. Much cuter than mine.

lovely. i've been meaning to make one of these, too. but i can't decide where to put it and so what colors to use.

i always have a tough time getting linen to sew just. right. i'm glad to see i'm not the only one.

and i'm glad to see i'm not the only one whose children can't see the clothes on the floor they are stepping over/on.

Reusable Swiffer WetJet Cloths

I promised myself that, when I bought a box of Swiffer WetJet refills at the wholesale club, it would be the last box I bought. Something had to be done. Now, to be honest, part of the reason was to help the environment, but the other part was because I was tired of running out of those darn things. I took some towels, folded them in half cut them into 5" widths. (The towel was just about 25" or so from side to side when flat.) Then I cut two 5" pieces of elastic and serged it all together. Two layers of toweling and two elastic strips. That's it. (The finished piece was approximately 4.75" x 12.") Within minutes I had a stack of eight. Slide them on and mop away. You will have a clean floor and have saved one more thing from ending up in the landfill. Now, if I can just do something about the cleaning liquid ... Something environmentally-friendly, economical, and won't cause further pain to my arthritic back.

It's that time of year again. The one that seems to come faster and closer every year. Yes, today I am 39. (That means I'm almost 40! Aaaahh!) To keep in tradition with years' past , I decided to do a list of things you might not know about me . (My best friend loves these posts, so this is in honor of her. You know who you are.) I ran 1 3/4 miles this morning. I gained 3-4 pounds after Sawyer weaned himself this year. Since starting to run, Joe has said that my thighs are "as tight as when we were first married." I didn't realize my thighs weren't tight. Hmmm. I guess six kids can do that to you. I need a new mattress. We bought our last mattress when I was in labor with Carter . That was ten years ago. We also bought a set of bunk beds that day. I want a new sofa. Actually two new sofas. I'm waiting until Sawyer is potty-trained. I'm planning on training him as soon as school lets out in June.
