Pants and Pretzels

Spenser is in need of new spring/summer clothes. What's new? She's the only girl and doesn't have any hand-me-downs, unless our little friend Kallie has some for her. Really, I don't mind. It gives me an excuse to sew. Not that I need an excuse, you know.

Yesterday I made her some capris and a matching appliqued shirt. It's a stick-figure girl. I draw them for her all the time because she likes them. I thought a simple stick-figure shirt would be perfect. She loves it.

And ever since we visited Aunt Lettie, I can't get enough of these spiced pretzels. She gave me a baggie of them and I ate the whole bag that night. The boys were sorely disappointed when they saw the bag in the trash the next morning. I tried her recipe yesterday and they were just as yummy as hers. (Minus the dill weed, which I didn't have.)

Spiced Pretzels

1 1/2 lbs. broken pretzels (bite size)
3/4 cup popcorn oil*
1 envelope powdered ranch dressing
1 tsp. lemon pepper
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. dill weed.

Preheat oven to 250 F. Spread pretzels on large baking sheet. Pour oil over pretzels. In small bowl mix dry ingredients. Sprinkle over pretzels and toss. Bake for 40 minutes, turning every 10 minutes. Remove from oven and drain on brown grocery bag.

*Aunt Lettie uses canola or vegetable oil.

Cute Spencer! Of course, she needs a girly wardrobe that you have sewn her!

Love the pants. And that snack sounds really good! Must try it. My grandmother used to make a similar thing with oyster crackers instead of pretzels.

Reusable Swiffer WetJet Cloths

I promised myself that, when I bought a box of Swiffer WetJet refills at the wholesale club, it would be the last box I bought. Something had to be done. Now, to be honest, part of the reason was to help the environment, but the other part was because I was tired of running out of those darn things. I took some towels, folded them in half cut them into 5" widths. (The towel was just about 25" or so from side to side when flat.) Then I cut two 5" pieces of elastic and serged it all together. Two layers of toweling and two elastic strips. That's it. (The finished piece was approximately 4.75" x 12.") Within minutes I had a stack of eight. Slide them on and mop away. You will have a clean floor and have saved one more thing from ending up in the landfill. Now, if I can just do something about the cleaning liquid ... Something environmentally-friendly, economical, and won't cause further pain to my arthritic back.

Today is my second blogiversary . I have been jabbing my jaws for two years now. Two years. Time has flown by. I've had my blog longer than I've had Sawyer in my life, which seems totally weird because it feels like he's always been a part of my life.
