An Apron and WIPs

Yesterday was my dear friend Kim's birthday. Even though it is the "year of the tote," I made her a tote last year. I decided that I would make her an apron. You know when you have a project all planned out in your head: what fabric you are going to use and how it's going to look and then you go to the fabric store and can't find the fabric? Well, that's what happened to me. I knew I wanted black and white with red rickrack, but I had a specific fabric in mind. I went to buy it and it wasn't there. I studied the fabrics and found the runner up: Alexander Henry "Diamond Eye." It's a little bold, but I think I like it (and I surely hope Kim does, too). I added red, jumbo rickrack to the bottom. Happy birthday, Kim. (In this picture, the wind is blowing from behind making the apron look a little more poofy than in real life.)

My WIP's for this weekend are (from top left): baby jacket, bib, diaper case for a baby shower next weekend; a cape and crown for my nephew's birthday; and a birthday surprise that cannot be revealed.

And, I was just recently informed that Mothers Day is around the corner. Yikes!

What are your plans for Mothers Day gifts?

I really like the apron! I'm sure it would have been just as pretty with the fabric you couldn't find, but I think I prefer it with the bold black and white you went with!

What a cute apron! Mother's day? She's getting the wallet/lipstick cozy promised awhile ago. The inlaw received her purse a month ago - but I may just get around to making that fabric flower promised for the finishing touch.

Love the apron! Very cheery and fun! For Mother's Day I am going with the old stand-by, pictures of the kids, but with a crafty touch! My inspiration came from Denyse Schmidts' book to use the glass clip frames and make a background out of fabric with the picture on top. So I plopped the kids on a bench in the park and took some fun picks and got rose garden themed fabrics (a fav for the grandmas). I am just going to sew strips with maybe some ribbon and ric rac mixed in and that is it! The frames are really cheap if you have an IKEA close by, I think I paid $2.99 for 4 or something ridiculous! I also had a few charm packs that I used to make criss-cross coaters (ala allsorts blog) that were fun and easy to put together.

Fun apron! I was going to guess the fabric was from AnnaMaria Horner, but I don't know if she has it that color. The rickrack makes it just darling. I'd like to try an apron that goes over my head - there must be a name for it...I just don't know what it is. Happy sewing - it looks like you've got a nice list of things ready to work on.
