He's Here!

Sawyer Dawson was born on Monday, September 25, 2006, at 10:55 a.m. He weighed 7 lbs., 7 oz., and was 21" long.

Joe wheeled me into the hospital at 10:25 a.m. While giving a urine sample, I had a contraction and my water broke conveniently while I was sitting on the toilet. Meconium was detected in the amniotic fluid. The in-house OB checked me and I was 8 cm dilated! Things went quickly from that point!

I was given an IV and wheeled down the hall to my room. Sawyer was born within minutes. He may have been born sooner, but the in-house OB wasn't dressed in his paper gown and I had to wait!

The on-call doctor from my OB's office made it in time to deliver the placenta and stitch me up. I had 1st degree tear, which is the least I've ever had.

Because of the meconium, they didn't want Sawyer to cry at first, until they suctioned out his mouth and lungs. But, it was very scary because he wasn't breathing on his own. They were doing baby CPR on him for the first few minutes. It was extremely scary. But, luckily, he let out a loud cry and started breathing on his own. He's been fine ever since. (Except he's a little jaundice.)

Our first family photo.

I look like I'm on drugs, but I assure you ... there was no time for drugs! I was just very exhausted (and still am).

And this little picture was taken as we were leaving the hospital. He has been so alert that he does not look like he's only 2 days old.

I'm in love ... again!

does anyone else notice that he seems to be waving at us in two of the pictures? Like he is saying hey to all that will see. "Hey, here I am, I finally made it"

Wow! I told him to be a good boy and shoot right out for mommy, but I didn't really mean THAT quickly! Yowsa! And I can't imagine the panic during those first few tentative minutes. But all's well now and he's a beautiful boy, Lera. Congratulations to you and your lovely family! I HOPE you can get a little rest.
