A Long Weekend

We had a fun long weekend together as a family. Our last family trip of the summer before school starts next week.

Joe had a "briefing" on Friday morning at Fort Dix (New Jersey). I had mistakenly said he had to "teach a class," which is what he did, but the more technical military term is "briefing." My bad. (He still taught a class ... in my terminology.)

In the afternoon we took the kids swimming on post.
After only two hours, it started to thunder, so they closed the pool.
Fort Dix is right next to an Air Force base, so we drove through to see the planes.

On Saturday we visited the Howell Living History Farm. What a beautiful farm and a beautiful day. We had perfect weather.

The children excitedly pumped water (and fought to take turns).
If only taking out the trash stirred up the same enthusiasm.

They walked a log balance beam.

Participated in a tomato-canning demonstration.

And walked over the footbridge over and over.

Except Spenser. She was afraid of the gaps between the planks of the footbridge. After halfway across, she would go no further.

glad you had fun!
(after 'only two hours' the pool closed? how long do you usually take the kids swimming? we never make it that long.)

Fun! Oh, yes, if only the garbage held as much interest as pumping water.....

What a great weekend!!!!!

I love all your photos.

I'm NOT comparing Spenser to a dog, but one of my dogs practically has to be carried over bridges. He trembles and shakes and flattens himself out like a pancake when crossing. It's funny (and annoying!!!).

looks like lots of fun! I love how they change the name of something simple (teaching) to make it sound more complicated!!

Only two hours? I take a friend's two kids to the pool and I'm done after an hour!

Love the photo of the big brother and the baby brother in the pool. It's adorable.
