A Tuesday WIP

Sunday is Mason's 5th birthday. With everything going on (back-to-school stuff, soccer, trips, etc.) I had almost forgotten about his party. I made a few phone calls and sent a few emails and his party is now happening on Friday. (I really shouldn't use the term "planned," because I'm still planning it.)

Last year I made drawstring bags for his party favors, as you may recall. This year I decided to make pencil rolls for his party favors. They are fun and practical. Two very important features. (And isn't that fabric cute?)

So last night, as soon as the children were in bed, I sat down on the floor to cut some fabric. Enough fabric for 16 pencil rolls (including my five oldest). Almost two hours later, I could barely stand up. My back has been bothering me (and my neck) for a few days and I think sitting on the floor just did me in. It stinks to be old.

Ack! Those hippos are fantastic.

And I feel your pain. I can't straighten up if I sit on the floor cutting or at the computer for more than an hour. Yikes! Feel better!

Love that hippo fabric! And, I feel your pain too--I have started cutting all my fabric on the kitchen island or on my fold-up hobby table. Once I get down on the floor for very long, it hurts to just get back up! Who said life begins at 40?!? Someone is their twenties, I'm guessing.
What a great/practical ideas... you gotta love them and so will the parents of the children receiving them.
I feel your pain regarding your back and neck I use to be in constant pain with my neck with all the sewing I do until I got one of those contour memory pillows. They really do work. What about using your dining table instead of the floor?

That fabric is adorable!!! I would love your tips for making the pencil rolls, if you can make 16 in the next few days you must have a few short-cuts up your sleeves! I am planning on making these for Christmas gifts this year because the pics that you have posted are so cute and I LOVE the idea!

Take care of your back! : )

16 pencil rolls in such a short time is amazing. Hope your back is better by now.

Also, if you are interested in buying those Japanese books I have on my blog, just email me, and I can give you more details. The price of those I bought ranged from $15 to $20 with free shipping.

Are they IKEA hippos? They look like fabric we have. 16 pencil rolls? I'd help if I was closer. And could sew a straight line.
