Summer Reading
On Monday, I went to the library. ::Gasp!:: I only took the four younger ones with me, although now I wish I would have forced the older two to go along. It's really Kathy's fault. And a little bit of Rachael's, too. Kathy had written a post about herself and said one of her favorite authors was Sophie Kinsella. Ooh, I love the Shopaholic series. In fact, the last book I read, er ... two years ago, was a Shopaholic book. After a few email exchanges with Kathy, I decided to pick up the next book in the series that I hadn't read yet (and there's still one more left).
Since Monday, I have been reading. Or trying to read. I have so many distractions if I try to read during the day. I'm continually interrupted. Luckily, the book is an easy read and I can usually find my place right away. These books make me laugh out loud. Seriously. Until I have tears in my eyes. I'm almost half-way through, which is an accomplishment for me. (I bought A Wrinkle in Time while camping and read about half. I don't have much of a desire to finish it. Not my type of book.)
While we were at the library, I found a book on some of Maryland's local ghost stories and legends for sale. I thought it looked like fun, so I picked up a copy. So, Monday night, as it was getting dark, I called the children downstairs. I had the lights turned off and I was armed with Joe's giant Maglite. They sat down on the floor around my feet and I read some ghost stories aloud in my best "ghost stories voice." Taylor and Carter were glued to every word, asking me to continue. Mason and Jack were a little afraid, begging me to stop. Spenser and Sawyer played in the dark, completely oblivious to what was going on. It was a good time, I'm tellin' ya. A good time. It's starting to feel like summer.

I have started taking my boys to the library once a week. Nate LOVES to "build" with the puzzles while Jake looks and book and plays the cool learning games on the computer. I enjoy watching them there!!
I'll have to read the Shopaholic books when I'm done with the series I'm reading now.
Ghost stories in the dark, does it get any better????
You are such a fun mom!
I'm curently reading all the Magic Treehouse books in order. Aidin skips around too much and since Tim and I take turns reading with her at bedtime, I often miss a chapeter or two. Talk about your easy read. :)
I think my oldest would love ghost stories. I think I'll have to look into that next time we go to the library.
She also has a new book out The Gatecrasher. Only she wrote this one under the name Madeleine Wickham.
I love the shopaholic series. I think I've read all of them. Well maybe not the last one. I'll have to check on that.
