A Day Without Boys

Yesterday seemed to fly by. The house was quite and still, but not for long.

So what does a mother of six do when she only has two at home? She goes to the library. The thrift store. The grocery store. And the post office. And she does laundry. Lots and lots of laundry. And dishes. Hmmm ... Now that I think about it, it's not too much different from when I have all six at home.

Ignoring Joe's "advice," I found a brightly colored vintage sheet at the thrift store. I just had to get it. In fact, it was quite convenient that I was doing laundry yesterday because its already been washed and cut.

There was a moment yesterday (or quite a few) that Spenser was crying. She walked through the house and, when things had quieted down, I went to look for her. I found her sleeping in our formal living room. For a few minutes, I enjoyed simultaneous naps for Sawyer and Spenser. This is especially rare because Spenser stopped napping this summer. It was a nice break for me.

So far today the house is quiet. Except Spenser keeps telling me that I'm mean ... she wanted to get on the bus and I wouldn't let her (I'm mean). Then she pouted and wanted to stand in the middle of the road and I wouldn't let her (I'm mean). Then she wanted to stand on the front porch while I came inside with the baby (I'm mean).

She's two. What can I say?

(A funny little story: This morning I was packing lunches for the boys and Carter, age 8 1/2, asked me not to pack the applesauce I had packed for him yesterday. It was cherry applesauce that had an Elmo on the lid. He said the children at lunch were calling him "Elmo lover." I tried not to laugh, especially as I was telling Joe in front of Carter.)

Sounds like a very productive day! I love that sheet, I would have had to get it too.

The Elmo story still has me laughing!

Maybe if I say it, it will come true- Spenser will nap again today.
Yes, Erik has started packing his own lunch. We'll see how long that lasts.

So, what's the sheet going to be...?! I'm curious. Right now I have 4 kids home, next week 3. I can imagine with 'only' 2 home you will have some freedom to come and go a bit. Enjoy!

Elmo lover gives me a little giggle too.

Jack REALLY wants to get on that bus too. Too bad there is no bus to PDO, or I would be happy to put him on it!

I guess if you are 8 and a half, being an Elmo Lover probably isn't much of a good thing.

Glad you had a productive day. I can't wait to see what you make with that sheet!

OK, I had to laugh at the Elmo comment too. With my two oldest at school (all boys here), my #2 came home yesterday wearing his younger brothers shirt (#3 who is NOT in school yet) that had a zebra on the front. He said the kids were teasing him asking if he was trying to be cute for mommy. Now the shirt fit, because no matter the age, once they hit 3 they're all pretty much the same size, and it wasn't a cartoon or anything, but he was really upset. Silly kids!
